Hitchhikers Guide film gets thumbs niether up or down

Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy watched last night. When I see reviews elsewhere before giving mediocre scores I know I'll expect the same. Shame as there's loads of great creative touches though just let down by making it too accessible to all audiences - bit like a very weak vodka redbull, sickly sweet with none of the danger.

Nice to see (and hear) some Brit talent including a tird of League of Gentleman, Bill Bailey as the whale, the old TV Marvin robot, old Arthur Dent actor, as well as the main charaters - though Martin Freeman didn't really cut it for me.

Other small touches were the welcoming crab, the Vogons (quite large really), Shynola's animation of the Guide and the Planet factory (another large one).

Pointless character: John Malkovich - great effects but lame reason for plot

Overall: Tried too hard to appeal to all with dilluted and rushed story
