Leave 'em all behind

Wednesday was my very last day at work for Southampton. No opportunity to play Solitaire or draw moustaches on the manager photos. Instead I was running around like poultry post guillotine organising a seminar and doing last minute jobs. Lunch was a cosy affair with a handful of kind souls to share my last supper – no Judas’ allowed. The half-expected presentation came later in the afternoon with a few more faces and was presented with dolphin themed gifts (existing Uni of Southampton logo) and cash. Had the rest of the week off and ventured down to Brighton to find a flat to rent and arrange my single-bed halls of residence (East Slope, pictured right) in preparation for next week’s new job. The first place we viewed seemed to fit the bill instantly with perfect location, a good price and a friendly landlord. We cancelled the other viewings and secured our rent. The halls room which I had booked for two weeks was a nicotine-stench of a pit. Two weeks there just felt like 2 weeks to

It's either more evidence that I'm turning into my dad or the weather is worth talking about these days. What a washout for the weekend, not that we had much planned though should have looked at some Brighton flats and done a car-boot sale. Slightly glad we didn't get Glastonbury tickets as it turned out to be one of the worst. Spent Friday night catching up with possibly the best TV show ever - Heroes . Otherwise we spent our money on doovds, games and CDs. Mercury Meltdown Revolution on the Wii is good, addictive stuff making use of the wii-mote controlling a blob of mercury around a course. Recommended. Something to ease me back into the last working(?) week was this link sent around work. Picture above taken from the Pictures of Walls website is old but just tickled me in the right place. Another comedy must-see will be Fonejacker coming to E4 at 10:30pm 5th July. Shame we're cut off from the digital TV world. Have a look at his MySpace . Otherwise, it’s a 3 day wor

When neighbours and bikes attack!

The comedown from our Wireless weekend hit hard at the start of the week. More stress with the Brighton move with no news and it sounds like a new neighbour has moved in that won't stop talking until well late. Yesterday, we had some mini-goodness into our lives. The broadband's finally been connected, a mate copied some Heroes episodes for us which helped returned some sanity, the house chain has moved slightly with our seller's seller getting an offer accepted (but added another chain-link) and I found out that I have a halfday holiday still to take before leaving next week. Listening to Fabric 33: Spank Rock also helped and is nearly as good as The Glimmers DJ Kicks album. AND, before I forget, Kerry scooped up news of Underworld touring the UK with tickets at the Roundhouse bought. This cosy sensation of well-being didn't last long as the same chatty neighbour spieled off until 12:30am last night THEN we heard him again at 5:30am this morning - Not even our shout

Daft crowding, Punk party

With sweet FA TV for Friday night we watched Creep on DVD borrowed from Kev. It's that British horror film based within the London Underground. Bit tame and slightly laughable in places with some gruesome bits thrown in for good measure. Saturday was the Wireless festival at Hyde Park, London. Caught the end of Plan B , then watched CSS with their bland punky-rock-dance thing. Lead singer wore two rainbow jumpsuits screaming Thank you after each tune. There was only one or two other songs I liked apart from Death from Above. LCD Soundsystem played well with Keira Knightly seen enjoying herself in the Very VIP section on the stage. Shame they ended on a monotonous instrumental and disappeared from the stage. Was happy taking photos until the giant inflatable ball came out and some bloke with 2 beers got knocked soaking us and camera. I don't think I'll take it to Knebworth as my sensibilities will ruin the experience. Daft Punk came on with their trademark black curtain

Moving stress needs Zen and ITV

Yesterday was another mini-peak of stress and hard decision-making. Sunday we saw the tipi-lady's flat for sub-let. It was ok but couldn't have post delivered there. Spent most the day around the Laines. Checked out the Artrepublic which is where the Banksy picture got stolen . Noticed that our framed Kozyndan prints (one of them pictured) were worth a bit more. Finally got some news on the house chain. People we're buying off got fed up themselves and put an offer on another property. Good to hear but just confirms that they'll be another chain on top of that. What I thought was going to be an escape plan has fallen short. The Uni of Sussex offered us a flat which is just a glorified bedsit. They wouldn't let us view the flat either. I googled the residence name, East Slope and there's chatrooms saying how much of a hole it is and how many parties there are. So...we've added another 2 weeks on the Southampton flat and I'll have to become a lodger of s

Of scary-marys and mongrel men

Bit unusual for me doing a blog entry for Saturday tea-time but I don't have access to a networked PC since we're broadbandless. So using the University's student facilities to check email, ebay etc. Whilst Kerry gets her hair done in London, I put myself through (back)pain and boredom to do a small car boot sale at some local school. Bit disappointing turn-out and the local mongrel men and scary-marys weren't expecting top quality products. Maybe the handbags and designer label jeans didn't go with the target audience. The table value was a least ten times as much as both neighbours and in 2 and half hours I made just £30 profit. Brighton news: Yesterday I found an advert on Gumtree for a 2 month flat rent. It's a sublet whilst the tennant goes for a long holiday in a tipi up the road. Should be seeing it tomorrow.

Don't call me ginger rent boy!

Not too much happening lately. The accommodation honeymoon period is over and I'm now worrying about where to live when I move to Brighton. Notice I've used 'I' instead of 'we' as playing with the idea of being a lodger or doing student digs which could be fun or not. Our uni harbour side flat can be rented longer helping the flexibility. House chain still stagnant and we considered being unfaithful to the Brighton house we love. Saw two places on Saturday and although they were cheap flirts they didn't match our high demands. We also saw a place for summer rent found on Gumtree but the lady jacked the price up to £1500 a month. Somehow I don't think she thought it through especially saying bills worked out as £300 a month! TV cold turkey Starting to deal with 5 channel tv tedium. I've actually found myself switching it off as if the addiction's wearing off. Rediscovered reading (Rant by Chuck Palaniuk) and playing the Gameboy (Pheonix Wright 2)
