Brick

Visited our local art-house cinema for this film-noir meets cool US high school thriller. Was surprised to see so many people there were especially being an Orange Wednesday at the local Odeon. What also surprised me was how many older people were there though a few of them walked out halfway probably confused with the slang terms used for almost everything.

Brick referred to a brick of smack stolen from the Pin, a local kingpin drug dealer which led to the murder of the leading role's girlfriend. The high school kid goes detecting for clues getting beaten up along the way to find out who killed her assisted by The Brain. All very Maltese Falcon/China Town style. All your noir elements were there such as hitmen, goons, drugs, a gangboss with a cane and femme-fatales except based in the LA Valley of teenagers. Very cool spotted with class direction and humour.
