No sleep til Southampton
Regret, sadness and Pete Tong playing his normal lame remixed house filled the new car's atmosphere. KissKow (the Audi A3) had left us and we were facing up to driving the replacement car down to Donna's in Plymouth for the weekend. We just had to tell ourselves it was the better decision and running in a new car is never fun. Got back in time to see Grace exit the BB house and see the recorded 'glass of water' incident. This year's summer TV should be retitled Big Bitch.
Being the fussiest person for sleeping, Saturday morning took 2 coffees to regain full consciousness. Kerry had the idea to take Morgan, our 4 year old niece to the Butterfly farm and Otter sanctuary. Photos already loaded to FlickR but butterflies don't make the best models as they keep flapping off before the camera reacts. The humidity took awhile to get used to for myself and the camera lens! Otters were less all over the place sectioned into different breeds. One had been given his own pond because he had a limp. As we joked to Morgan as to what otters ate just before their feeding time, we weren't far off the mark. Burgers were on the menu as well as raw salmon. We returned home with myself teaching Morgan how to use my digital camera which she seemed to pick up some basics.
It was an early evening meal spent on Mount Batten opposite Plymouth's Hoe. It took a water taxi to reach it taking about 5 to 10 minutes. Although essentially it was just a pub, the food was a fatboy dream. We returned home to video call Neil, Kerry's oversea brother in Saudi Arabia.
Another bad night's sleep meant Sunday was a real struggle to even smile. We left Donna and co and headed home via Exeter to visit Kerry's nan. Along the A38 we kept seeing people either stopped off in laybys or on bridges above the road waiting for something. 100's were out in force for about 5 miles. It was quite exciting until the traffic bombed to a stand-still and 100's of motorbikes peeled onto our road. For the next 10 miles we crawled at about 30-40 mph with crowds of people waving at them. If I wasn't so knackered I would have been bitching as much as Kerry. Apparently it was an annual event called the Megarun. Kerry's nan was chipper as ever and couldn't wait to get down to the carvery for a Sunday roast. The pub visit included a large serving of dessert only to be treated later with a serving on cakes, strawberries and ice-cream back at the flat.
Monday was a slog to get a seminar I was organising ready for today. Thankfully it went ok though overran by an hour.
Wireless festival has released its band performance times. Thankfully someone had the sense to organise Massive Attack after DJ Shadow. However Shadow is only playing 45 minutes which is well tight. The second half of The Flaming Lips will have to be missed for Shadow. The weather forcast is not looking favourite after all this summer sun, it looks like a balls-up for Friday.
