Budgieman beats Tate Modern
Lady Vengence was rented by post. I was persuaded by a free trial of Screen Select so gave it a whirl and got a quick turnaround. This was the third of the vengence trilogy from South Korea. Oldboy still topping the favourites and Sympathy for Mr Vengence getting a slashed-wrist thumbs up. The story goes that a woman has recently been released from prison for a kidnapping she didn't commit. Throughout her stay she's accumulated some inmate friends to help her revenge with some great background stories. Again the director/writer shows some unique insight to the Korean underworld with clever twists and direction though never out shines Oldboy. Its the last twist that brings the story to a new level with characters questionning their own morality. After that the film extends its welcome too long.
Sunday was an early start (for Sunday that is) getting the slow train to London for shopping and visiting the Icespace experience plus the Tate Modern. Well that was the plan (:-(. When I went to check for directions on the web for the Ice thing I found out it closed due to poor ticket sales.
Half the train journey was trying to ignore the smell from the OAP in front who's odour was like he'd just exited a hospital operation theatre possibily to mask his incontinence. Shopping was more of a sherpa duty as well as a wild-goose chase for a coat. We gave up remembering we wanted to see the Tate Modern. Walking across the Millennium bridge was higher than I thought and scared the crap out of Kerry with my fingers squeezed until they nearly fell off. On the other side was a modest skateboarding ramp with some less-than professional skaters. Nothing worth hanging about for, we headed into the building appealing to its free entry. However, the day's advertised events had been and gone so we quickly looked at the surrealist exhibition (again free) until we got chucked out 10 minutes before closing time. Wasn't impressed to be honest at both the art or service. What I was impressed by was the Budgieman (pictured above). A real 'Laandaner' singing to his acrobatic budgies about 'old Laandan taann'. Will load up the video I took on YouTube.
Later we arranged to meet up with the 2K's & 2S's for drinks at The People's Republic and Dim Sum at Traders, both in Clapham. The bar was packed and didn't have food so went walking on Karol's passing memory of a place with Chinese lanterns. Luckily it turned out good with some fantastic food. Last train back to Southampton was a drag lowering ourselves to read the SouthWest Trains magazine and noting the weirdos who leave personal ads.
