Last night I saw possibly one of the most imaginitive and original puppetry in ages. No wonder their Edinburgh show sold out. Titled 'The Table', it was described as: "Moses the puppet invites you to his home, the Table, where he experiences real and surreal visions in Blind Summit Theatre 's imaginative show combining puppetry and dark humour." The first act involved their main character animated by three puppeteers who bascially introduced himself, his imaginery landscape on the table and his failing persistance to reinact Moses' last 12 hours according to the Bible. The humour was subtle but mature and dark in places but at times had everyone in stitches especially as it seemed there was an improvisation moment when the puppets hand fell off. Found this amazing image from a very talented diablo2003 and instantly got very excited only to realise it was a one-off image. Still, it looks fantastic.

With the weather being kind, we cut short our working week taking Thursday and Friday as holiday so we could get some Vietnam cycling training in. The plan was to cycle the 34 miles to a B & B near Bedgebury Forest near Tunbridge Wells . A couple of weeks ago, BBC South East Today featured a special art installation called the 'Electric Forest' at Bedgebury Pinetum . The forest also boasted one of the country's best mountainbike circuit. It was quite a challenge to pack one single backpack bag, light enough to contain enough clothing (including wet weather), minimum toiletries (toothbrush and paste), a bike lock, spare tubes and my Gorillapod for a camera. There was no way I could fit my SLR to take the planned night-time shots of the Electric Forest photos so resorted to my compact Panasonic. Like the Bright Club's choice of venue for their 'sea' special, this was another inspired choice. The classic ' brat-pack ' film of the 1980's, The Breakfast Club was brought to life in Brighton's own Jubilee Library . A sell-out crowd waited in front of the main stage (well, ground floor) which consisted of a number of desks and a view of the suspended walkway with theatre prop: a vandalised locker. Strangely no one outside really noticed that there was a play going on inside. The actors entrance was ordered from the first floor all taking their place as if sitting in for detention and immediately sulked into their own character. The 'Brain' reads out the introduction letter to set the scene: Five high school student stereotypes and their punishment on a Saturday. Brian Eno is the guest artistic director for this year's Brighton Festival and there were two events we made an effort to see. His Speaker Flower Sound Installation in Malborough House off Old Steine is worth a look and is free to get in. It's a grand and beautiful building to wander round in and the installation is quite interesting but not worth a long journey for. If you're in Brighton anyway than make the effort. Below is a video of me walking through a couple of rooms to give you an idea of what to expect. Nice use of coloured paper on the windows. We followed up the visit with the 6:30pm showing of Brian Eno's This is Pure Scenius . We were initially put off by the £20 price tag even if Underworld's Karl Hyde was performing because it was split into three performances. After Saturday's double celebration of Kerry and Sukey's birthday, the thought of another mad night out was way down on my wish list. Still, after seeing the Star Wars video Chris Cunningham had done I was looking forward to similar music brilliance. For some reason I thought we had standing tickets but we'd somehow booked seating at the Brighton Dome which was perfect. We'd come into halfway of the one of the warm-up acts, Beak> (that's not a spelling error by the way). At first they sounded awful as they distorted electric guitar and pots 'n' pans rock sound but after a couple more songs and swapping of instruments their sound transformed past the distortion into a rich, eerie but lo-fi soundscape. I noticed their merchandise stand only had their album on vinyl plus some really cool t-shirts (later bought). They have a blog too called Dream of Beak . We took a bit of a gamble on this. Even though we're fans of his work (the obvious being his Aphex Twin music videos), the concept of what could have been a glorified VDJ session didn't seem to warrant the high ticket price. However after finding the video below on YouTube, we can't wait. Apparently there's going to be a special guest which rumours say it is Richard James of Aphex Twin! Mr Cunningham brings his visual madness to the Brighton Dome on 19th April.

The mainstream media has been full of Oscar news but there was an award that slipped the headlines which  deserved a little more exposure. With the Brighton Festival being launched this week I've tried picking out some Fringe events that might be worth their ticket price. Their printed brochure won't be published and on the streets until 17th March so we'll have to put up with their clunky website. Since I know a little about CMS run websites I couldn't help myself to email the Fringe people and moan about it as its so slow and takes forever to go through ever event. Finally, a glimpse of Spring and Summer entertainment that's coming to Brighton. Can't wait to see the back of Winter. Both the Brighton Festival and Fringe websites have gone live with this year's events. Brian Eno is the big name for the festival but I'm struggling to find anything accessible that's not up its own arse. The Brighton Festival Fringe website is completely useless as you have to search by date or category with no real idea of the highlights. Getting the printed brochure this weekend will be one of my priorities. Here are some Festival events that appeal to me at the moment: Electric Hotel - 14 and 15 May Described as: Electric Hotel is a bizarre and beautiful outdoor spectacle; a uniquely designed, fly-by-night residence brought to life through dance and sound. Here's a film to get excited about after a two month lull of cinema entertainment. Banksy is the star of Exit through the Gift Shop (linked to Guardian review) and will be showing at the Duke of Yorks , Brighton and other independent cinemas from 5th March. After a few weeks break, our super-team of quizzers won the 1st year anniversary of Horace McSquirter's Quiz me Hardy at the Pond pub. It was very exciting with the place decorated with knob shaped balloons though I'd say we were robbed of the best team name prize (c'mon Horace, keep up with the news) with a nod to Amy Winehouse 's year free cold-turkey "They tried to make me go to quiz night but Horace said no, no, no". The music round was a tie-breaker between us and another team but we lost that too. The last laugh was with us as we scraped through to win the grand prize with a cheeky half point. Fredag (Friday in Swedish) We celebrated Sukey's first day at work, which started for her on a Friday. Our chosen meet up point was the Northern Lights , the Scandinavian bar on Little East Street. It was a gloomy, wet evening but the atmosphere inside was cosy and cool. Shame their gin and grapefruit speciality was sold out but I did get a chance to sample ...

Discovered this piece of art on Church Street, Brighton near the Library entrance. Its part of a new exhibition held at Prescription Art , the Old Music Library. Inside are more huge installations built from old crates, furniture and wood to resemble ehibition title, Robots.

You might have seen the snail art in the newspapers but this is the official blog of the artist who has a Lilliput/Borrowers obsession. There's some mention of a treasure hunt for the 31st August which sounds fun. Also, there's a new book launched for the artwork.

Glow was an amazing multi-media and modern dance performance as part of the Brighton Festival. Held in Fabrica we were seated looking down at a white gymnastic white floor. The sound effects and eerie music kicked off and a dancer crawled out as if trapped in a padded cell. The projected light effects interacted with her as she squirmed, stretched and writhed around. Some of the lights were pulsing, other created a phased or shadowed pattern around her. The shadows were particular effective at simulating what could be described as demons possessing the dancer and actually scared the crap out of a small girl who's mum quickly took her away. Hopefully the YouTube video will give you a better idea. Saturday was more DIY with the evening watching the Euro-politics - what the f*ck is up with that! No wonder Terry Wogan is quitting. I've managed to buy some Mighty Boosh tour tickets for Brighton Dome a day before their release thanks to the Modwolves club I'm a member of. It's finally paid off and will hopefully get front row seats for their live show next November. The same club/mailing list also promoted a great cartoon joke book called 'Don't arm wrestle a pirate' which the above image is from. Perfect as a Christmas present. They also have a MySpace entry which features more drawings.

Kerry spotted this 'art' in the Guardian and, with a bit of research, discovered a bit of local history which is no longer available to the public. The news-story was the seller's claim that Bonham's refused a £1m bid from Damian Hurst for a piece of Walter Potter's work. Shame we moved here too late to see the stuffed animals in Victorian past-times . If anyone's seen this or know where any of the pieces can be seen please tell me! Tonight I'm taking part in my employer's (real) pantomime. Apparently its a long institute tradition where I have a non-speaking/singing part. Full report later.

This weekend will go down for two memorable events. Tony, Kerry's hairdresser brought his friend down to Brighton to celebrate his birthday. We met them at Legends, an infamous hotel for a certain segment of population (I only realised after I got there) on the seafront. We had high expectations of an expensive night being Tony, hairdresser to many fashion shows and friends of famous people. However, arriving at the hotel bar at 10:30pm brought home the flavour of the evening with a tinge of cheap cheesiness. After Tony and Chris faffed about for a good hour showing off their 6 outfit wardrobe for two evenings we avoided the hotel bar and headed for Dr. Brighton's. Based on a memory 7 years ago, it turned out to be an old duffers pub so turned straight back. Audio was busy and many people taking advantage of the outdoor seating for smoking and braving the gale-force winds. The downstairs club had Andy Weatherall playing that night.
