Future Cinema does Ghostbusters at the Troxy, London

Image
I must have seen Ghostbusters a dozen times with two and a bit of them at my old hometown cinema when it was first released in 1984. I say 'and a bit' as the third time I tried to see it I had arranged with a school friend to meet outside the cinema. As I was so keen to meet him and get good seats I was at the start of the queue. As the doors opened and everyone crammed in my 11 year old mind told me I would meet my friend inside. Being dropped off by his mother they probably thought I hadn't turned up so called my own mum. Whilst I started to watch the film oblivious to the worry caused, I noticed my mum was talking to the cinema's manager looking very worried but decided to duck my head and try to ignore her. Somehow it worked as my mum and manager went back down the stairs to the foyer. Thinking I'd gotten away I continued to watch the film up to the film's library scene. Unfortunately, instead of hearing Bill Murray's voice it was blanked out by t...

Senna - The Movie

Image
Saw this Sunday night at the Duke of Yorks, Brighton. I always knew how good Ayrton Senna was as an F1 driver though before his unfortunate death back in the early 1990's I remember being slightly put off by some of  his 'godly' quotes. What the film did explain very well was the F1 politics that worked against him at times, the worshipping of his Brazilian fans and perhaps some of the worst crashes Formula One has seen. The result was an engrossing documentary making a change from the big budget sequels that the summer will be churning out. Good to see the cinema packed out to proving motor racing's popularity. Bladerunner chess set

Image
Whilst doing some Bladerunner web research I came across this image. Bit of a personal obsession as I'm looking for photography ideas for my course. The chess set looks like its based on the amazing architecture of J.F.Sebastian's flat. More photographs and details at Walyou website .

Found this amazing image from a very talented diablo2003 and instantly got very excited only to realise it was a one-off image. Still, it looks fantastic.

Tron Legacy 3D - 23 minute preview review

Image
Not exactly the most busiest of cinema attendances I've ever been too but the first to have two bouncers searching for us before we went in. The two security guys were almost identical twins which was a slight Matrix moment for us. They were strict too, taking away any cameras and demanding mobilephones to be switched off. With a few minutes to go before the film, (I'm guessing) the manager appeared announcing that he would be viewing the film with us as well as the twin security guards to make sure no filming would take place and that we could provide feedback after the showing. He also mentioned that we would see a number of different scenes from the first half of the film. 3D glasses went on, a quick advert for the video game which looked ok then the familiar BBFC certificate. The first scene introduced Flynn's grown-up son, Sam arriving back on his motorbike to his warehouse-like house between two massive bridges. His cute little dog welcomes him and is given a wrap...

Another Tron Legacy Trailer featuring Daft Punk

Image
Great new trailer for the forthcoming Tron Legacy film. This time we get to see the robot gods, Daft Punk do some 'acting'. They appear to be behind a sort of DJ booth like some sort of power/game operatives. Liking the soundtrack played and can imagine that 'Derezzed' will go down well live. Also, I quite like Michael Sheen (aka Tony Blair / Brian Clough / David Frost ) doing some sort of David Bowie / Ziggy Stardust blonde baddy. Roll on tomorrow evening for the 23 minute preview. Tron Legacy and Daft Punk poster and film news

Image
Earlier this week, Disney offered its Tron Legacy Facebook fans a chance to see 23 minutes of the forthcoming film at a number of chosen cinemas. You have to register with the Disney website for marketing purposes but true fans will know its worth it. Thankfully, Brighton Cineworld was one of dozen or so venues and we'll be seeing this next Thursday (28th October). Watch this space for a review. ElecTRONica opening night photos The Facebook fan page also has the photos from the opening of their Disneyland resort area, ElecTRONica which look really cool. The podium dancers and green lasers look great. Wonder if they sell the new Tron suits? IMAX 3D cinema showing I read that the US IMAX cinemas are starting to sell out of the early showings. In a small panic, I've emailed the London IMAX to see when they'll be releasing tickets themselves. Will update you by Twitter/Facebook. Daft Punk played live last night! Found this lovely poster too of the robot gods, Daf...

A Town Called Panic

Image
After our bike ride yesterday, we treated ourselves to a posh meal at La Fourchette . It must have been the fourth restaurant to book as all were fully booked. I still can't believe that the most useful search keywords to use were 'posh restaurant Brighton'. It started off very well, starters and service all very good but their sea bass was heavily boned. I made the mistake of re-ordering it and it was nearly as bad. Made up for it by having the Pear amandine with vanilla ice cream. Delicious! Sunday should have been another training session especially as the weather kept its promise of being warm. However, the house and garden were a tip so spent some energy tidying and mowing. I also wasted £3.50 of 5 minutes looking around a photography sale at the Racecourse. It was more like a carboot sale of old camera crap. It would have been £10 (a tenner!?) if I'd been there before 10am. For our animation amusement. we saw A Town Called Panic at the Duke of Yorks. If you...

Tron Evolution game

Image
Just found this YouTube video after some further research on Tron Legacy . I couldn't tell whether the start of the clip is from the actual film or is a sequence from the game. There seems to be elements of racing, driving, tank-shooting, light-cycle and a platform beat'em-up. Hopefully they haven't spread themselves too thin with all sections being below average. Secret Cinema - Blade Runner photos

Image
The director who did the TV show about photography I was on told me about this. Being a huge Blade Runner fan, I was so jealous but at least someone took these photos. Its like a party with film sets to walk around, scenes to watch, live bands, actors playing parts, the film played and an experience to never forget. See the Secret Cinema website for more details. If the photos don't impress, check out their YouTube channel .

Latest mouth-watering Tron Legacy products

Check out these beauties for the forthcoming Tron Legacy film. Original post from Gaming Today website . Then there's the remote control Light Cycle that goes up walls! Also, take note of the Tron keyboard in the foreground. See the video below. Original post from i09 website and video from Wired : From the same website comes a video of the Wii game of Tron: Legacy. Its just what I thought the ZX Spectrum game looked like in my 12 year old mind before the biggest let down of seeing lines being drawn: For those wanting toys there's a video of the action figures with glowing light strips. Oooh, suits you sir! Finally, here's that keyboard you saw earlier plus all images of the forthcoming Tron products. Very tasty! Gaming Bits website provided the original source:

Jet Bike Steve - From Twitter idea to actual film concept

Image
Witnessing the birth of an idea in real time is quite a unique feeling of excitement (and a time-waster if you're working). The often misunderstood social media that is Twitter catapulted what might have been just a whimsical daydream movie idea by Britcom legend, Simon Pegg into a web and media frenzy (ok, frenzied action by fans perhaps). Earlier today, he announced the project's green light of 'Jet Bike Steve and The Bikini Thief' on Lauren Leverne's BBC 6 Music radio show . The Tweet from @Simonpegg started it all off was " I'm gonna write a film about jet bikes. I like them, they go fast on the sea. I play the main character, Jet Bike Steve. That's all so far." at 3:22pm on 23rd March 2010. The Twitter banter escalated between Nick Frost , Edgar Wright and about 252,986 followers (as on 26th March). The basic concept of 'Jet Bike Steve' is Steve, a (good) pirate who travels around on a Knightrider like Geordie accented, talk...

One Man Lord of the Rings at Brighton Theatre Royal

Image
We'd bought tickets way back in September last year on probably the very day it was announced yet we were still the second row. Are people psychic or something? Still we had an excellent view and if Charles Ross had eaten garlic we would have smelt it. The support comedian did a good job diverting the audience's attention for 30 minutes and had some very bizarre views on life. The main attraction didn't disappoint either with all three books/films played out. The first film was perfectly executed with accents and mannerisms picked up. Between the first and un at second, Chrales Ross whilst drinking water to recover asked the audience how many had seen the movies or had read the books. Amazingly, some had seen neither! The 'gay' comradeship between the two Hobbits was picked up in the performance as well as some gentle poking of fun at Legolas . Probably the best moment for me was the Pippin singing whilst Denethor ate tomatoes scene re-enacted so well - a hila...

Happy Anniversary

Image
Today is our 9th wedding anniversary. Kerry and I got married in Reading on this day in 2001 and believe it or not it's just a little before digital photography really took off (for me at least) so no digital photos. Will have to scan a few at some point. Thought I'd revisit the places that made this day so memorable via the web: Reading Register Office (photo to the right - back in 2001 it was covered in scaffolding and no garden) Penta Hotel Reading (known back then as the Renaissance Hotel) for our brunch/lunch reception Eurostar to Paris As far as memories go for our honeymoon, I can't remember the hotel or any names of restaurants we visited but we did all the normal tourist places including: Eiffel Tower (Kerry's vertigo got the better of her); Notre Dame ; Pompidou Centre ; Arc de Triomphe (very windy and wet); Louvre ; Sacre-Coeur (artist portraits still rolled up in their tubes) Sad news on this day On this day today, Corey Haim died of a drug...

Banksy is the star of Exit through the Gift Shop (linked to Guardian review) and will be showing at the Duke of Yorks , Brighton and other independent cinemas from 5th March. Daft Punk's Daft World

Image
With Daft Punk making a very brief, blink-and-you'll-miss-them appearance in the latest Adidas Star Wars viral video promotion and Tron Legacy popping up here and there to stoke the fires of anticipation I've since come across what seems to be the  best fan based Daft Punk blog . They've posted an official looking image to say Daft Punk confirming the tune called Fragile is a fake Tron soundtrack but further reading has revealed some tasty artwork combining them and Star Wars. The one below is my favourite: There's dozens of Tron artwork as well so I'll be keeping a close eye on this French site. Using Google's Translate service you can view the English text version of Daft Punk's Daft World .
