Found some great web content this week and for anyone not following me on Twitter or Facebook here's a summary of what I've found this week. Event: Asahi Anime Festival 30 April - 2 May, Moshi Moshi Brighto n Expect Japanese pop bands, Gothic Lolita fashion shows, lovely, lovely Japanese beer and food, karaoke & more beer. My latest web tool discovery and best mate is Feedly . All thanks to my employer's director who'd been nagging me for a better RSS Feed Reader other than Google Reader and Netvibes . Even if you're not that familiar with RSS or you're just a bit lazy, you can add sources by just pasting in the web address. It integrates all the news, blogs and other sites' feeds into a magazine-style format. It also integrates with your Twitter account and Facebook if you want to share an interesting link. The set up and menu are a little confusing at first and Feedly has to be a browser add-on meaning you can only view it on your own PC. Also, no Internet Explorer option either so Firefox or Chrome only. Feedly will also recommend other blogs that match your interest and I've since discovered some great content. I'd registered my interest a couple of months ago but only got an invite via a kindly Brighton New Media member. Two days after that I was sent my offical invite from Google so now have a work and personal account. Bear in mind that this is still a beta release so there should be some final tweaks to come. Here's some very initial thoughts: If you're not a web geek here's a quick explanation as to what Google Wave actually is. At the moment most people will see it as a web email service similar to Hotmail but you create 'waves' which can act as messages so you can attach files, photos and links etc. The Wave itself can develop as a conversation (think Facebook comments on a status) as others can add their own comments or files, images etc, etc as well as correct or add text to the original message you started. Thanks to the Brighton New Media email group I'm a member of, I volunteered myself to help SCIP (Sussex Community Internet Project) with their stand at the Brighton and Hove City Council event called Get Involved . I was expecting to show charity and community types how to use Twitter, YouTube and blogging but with the lashing rain and wind it seemed that everyone stayed at home. As soon as I arrived I was asked to interview one brave soul then upload it to their YouTube channel. The second person was a little more interesting, a guy called Jason Kitcat who as well as being the main web bloke for Mums Net, he is the Green City counciller at Brighton and Hove. This year's Eurovision wasn't as good as last year. Not enough campness or LOL WTF moments with a lot of countries recognising that strange dancing, theatrics and dodgy costumes don't get votes. The semi-finals managed to uncover a few of these (my camp favourite was the Dutch entry) but didn't get through the voting net. At least the voting seemed a lot better. What was different this year for me was how Twitter was used as an amusing side show of online heckling. I'd only used for random thoughts and personal status updates as well as the odd festival update. As we watched the semi-final I started using the right hand side search to see how many Eurovision # tags were being used. It was incredible with 100's of people Tweeting instantly their reaction to a country's song. Not one but two bits of news that have made me very excited. 1. Daft Punk are making some new tunes for; 2. the new Tron 2 movie! Someone at Walt Disney has put together what was probably the most obvious but genius music/film combination ever. Data Transmission has the original story with a YouTube trailer of the film which looks like it was recorded on a mobilephone at ComicCon. There's some film plot details going around as well on Ain't It Cool news .

Whilst searching for unusual Christmas presents I came across the Forbidden Planet website and saw these. They're on pre-order only at the moment but supposedly in time for Christmas. (Click on each photo to pre-order and view more details). For £20 you get two characters at 4.5 inches high designed by Pete Fowler, who does the Monsterism series.

You might have seen the snail art in the newspapers but this is the official blog of the artist who has a Lilliput/Borrowers obsession. There's some mention of a treasure hunt for the 31st August which sounds fun. Also, there's a new book launched for the artwork.

The marketing people behind this are genius! The chocolate Russian roulette game of Revels have launched a Big Brother style eviction campaign. If there's a flavour you don't like then vote it out. Go to Revels Eviction website now where you can evict the flavour off in style e.g. rocket, golf club, remote control car off the cliff. Shame there's no baseball bat or sawn-off shotgun option. There's also a Facebook group. Here's my soapbox moment for voting:- Revels are lying to you! They say that Caramel is included but its actually her evil twin brother Toffee. That hardened, unloved bully boy bribed Revels, kidnapped his sister and has been getting away for too long robbing and beating up the other flavours for their lunch money and kicking your teeth in. Only Coffee flavour can save the day! Vote off Caramel!!

The Sock Fetish was just odd ( see my previous blog entry ). This time, well I'll let you decide if I should do anything to stop this stalking. FlickR has the function to check the recent activity of your photos i.e. how many views, how many have been made a favourite, comments made etc. Today this photo of me in a helicopter has been made a favourite for another FlickR user. Why? Its not a great shot so could it be the helicopter, the pilot, me?? I follow the link trail to find out who liked it that much to save it as favourite. Someone called Asicsboy who only takes photos of his Asics trainers and one of him in a mask. Another foot fetish freak! But no, the creepiness continues. Has anyone noticed how creative spam email subject lines are getting now? This week is when all the big games manufacturers launch their newest products by press conference. To follow up their Balance Board and the game that inspired grannies to beat up their friends and dads to get virtual tennis elbow (or wrist), Nintendo will be launching a new version of Wii Sports with different games and a remote add-on to make accuracy and reaction speeds even better. Ignore this part of the entry if you don't want to hear about my work and skip to the 3rd paragraph. My job has got a little more interesting over the past few weeks and I'm actually using the skills I've picked up from doing my blog, photos, Facebook and the degree I did. I'm now expected to come up with a web strategy for the organisation I work for (too complicated to explain here) to ultimately increase their web statistics. Last week I attended a seminar hosted at the Channel 4 building near Victoria station in London where some web experts from BBC, C4, ITV and some agencies presented social web media, networking and the buzzword of 2007/8 - Web 2.0. It wasn't that useful as I'd already knew most of what they were saying and even disagreed with some of them. Shame my phone battery didn't last the distance and the Orange tent didn't have enough Sony Ericsson charge points. Anyway, we left Brighton about midday Thursday with Mark's campervan for the festival. We were a little anxious seeing the news to see what looked like almost everyone getting there the day before so getting a decent pitch looked doubtful. The first shock was hearing the massive scrapyard fire had caused some major traffic queues. It took about 30 minutes to get in after joining the queue. We went for the 'families' field with the prospect of actually getting some sleep but that didn't really matter later as you could hear the sound-systems from the main site.
