I'm sure Laurent Garnier played this tune when he was DJing at the Brighton Concorde2 last year. Anyway, you could say this my record of the month, not that I've ever had a record of the month but perhaps I should from now on. A nice lazy start at 9am, we decided on a selfish day alone to walk around the beautiful and accessible Hoi An. I had 2 servings of yoghurt museli whilst Kerry opted for full English. Next we found the tailor that our guide recommended for Kerry's Chinese style dress. Within 20 minutes she'd chosen the silk fabric, been measured and paid the deposit with a fitting time of 4:30pm. We then found the tourist office and paid about £3 for a city ticket to visit about 5 museums and landmarks. The Japanese Covered bridge was first then a very old family house all in the mixed styles of Vietnamese, Japanese and European. The guide led us round stopping at every opportunity to buy their embroidery or gift shop stuff. Had some retail therapy finding the best t-shirt shop yet with a Bruce Lee noodles picture. Otherwise we explored more interesting sites, drank coffee, drank cocktails, ate cake until the fitting. Tailor wasn't ready so had to come back in an hour. More coffee and ...

I thought it might have been a sad day when I sold my Technics SL1200s but it wasn't. The cash came in really handy for the gamble to go completely digital. I've been DJing with Virtual DJ 6.0 for a couple of years but I never quite had the control or flexibility to really inspire me. Sometimes tracks wouldn't beat sync right and the TK Filter FX would cause a program crash or trip out the amp. I can now say that the gamble has paid off and that with some hours put in can come away with an addictive smile after buying my new toy, the Native Instruments Traktor Kontrol S4. We took a bit of a gamble on this. Even though we're fans of his work (the obvious being his Aphex Twin music videos), the concept of what could have been a glorified VDJ session didn't seem to warrant the high ticket price. However after finding the video below on YouTube, we can't wait. Apparently there's going to be a special guest which rumours say it is Richard James of Aphex Twin! Mr Cunningham brings his visual madness to the Brighton Dome on 19th April.

Witnessing the birth of an idea in real time is quite a unique feeling of excitement (and a time-waster if you're working). The often misunderstood social media that is Twitter catapulted what might have been just a whimsical daydream movie idea by Britcom legend, Simon Pegg into a web and media frenzy (ok, frenzied action by fans perhaps). Earlier today, he announced the project's green light of 'Jet Bike Steve and The Bikini Thief' on Lauren Leverne's BBC 6 Music radio show . The Tweet from @Simonpegg started it all off was " I'm gonna write a film about jet bikes. I like them, they go fast on the sea. I play the main character, Jet Bike Steve. That's all so far." at 3:22pm on 23rd March 2010. The Twitter banter escalated between Nick Frost , Edgar Wright and about 252,986 followers (as on 26th March). No idea why Sean Lock didn't play Brighton but it was good to visit somewhere different even if it was Bexhill. His latest tour, Lockipedia was playing at the De La Warr Pavilion which looked very impressive. A pre-show dinner was ordered from Cafe Belge which had the smell of an old people's home and the food was average though was probably down to the lack of staff coping with the Sean Lock punters. I couldn't argue with its 'best burger in town' as I hadn't had any other burger in Bexhill but knew I'll never order a burger in Bexhill for the rest of my life. Apart from the food, it was the beer that made up for the visit. The beer cocktail that I instantly fell in love with as soon as I tasted it was the Tropical consisting of Floris Mango and Mongozo Coconut beer. It was a pina colada in a pint and even Kerry couldn't help herself trying to steal it. Luckily our quick ordering before a previous big group allowed us to escape in time for the 8pm ...

Last night, it seemed that no one under the age of 25 had heard or experienced the excellence and majesty that is The Bays at the Concorde 2 (why they bother keeping the number I'll never know). It was a bit of a late for a band as the line-up had some very experimental warm-up acts including Fidgital (great name but the violin and hip-hop starty-stoppy act wasn't my bag), Puncture Kit (I don't remember seeing them stage but apparently use a bicycle as a bass drum. Wouldn't the spokes get in the way?) and new favourite Brighton DJ for us, Natural Self . Most of the crowd waiting the Bays were enjoying the DJ who I could only describe as using those moody, breakbeat, tech-step (I have just created a new music genre?) rhythms and sounds that perhaps DJ Shadow or UNKLE used to use. Thanks to the Brighton New Media email group I'm a member of, I volunteered myself to help SCIP (Sussex Community Internet Project) with their stand at the Brighton and Hove City Council event called Get Involved . I was expecting to show charity and community types how to use Twitter, YouTube and blogging but with the lashing rain and wind it seemed that everyone stayed at home. As soon as I arrived I was asked to interview one brave soul then upload it to their YouTube channel. The second person was a little more interesting, a guy called Jason Kitcat who as well as being the main web bloke for Mums Net, he is the Green City counciller at Brighton and Hove. Image via Wikipedia Influenced by our friend, Julian's impressive (and slightly worrying) collection of retro games consoles plus the recent BBC4 Electric Dreams programming, I raided the attic to find Kerry's ZX Spectrum for some classic gaming. I'd bought this for her birthday or Christmas present some years ago, not the rubber keyboard version but the newer 128k '+2' with proper keyboard and integrated tape deck (according to Wikipedia it cost £149 at launch) plus a heap of games. We were amazed it still worked and the legendary loading sound brought back memories of worry and paranoia whether the tape would load (until we got bored of listening to it). Over the past few evenings we've tried a Dizzy game (you played an egg character), Manic Miner , Hyper Sports and Atic Atac . Manic Miner is still hard-as-nails to play, Hyper Sports surprisingly addictive and Atic Atac a recurring nightmare with a finger twister to play on the keyboard with all keys on ...

Wow! What a night! With some costume headaches and worries throughout the week everyone turned up at Riki Tiks looking the part. Kerry's side-parting, facial twirl and Louise Brooks look won me over (and a few others). Julian and Sukey were a pair of dapper gangster bosses, Clare transformed herself into a living Bonnie Parker , Charlotte looked amazing in her Flapper outfit whilst I went for a more blue collar look, a black-shirted fascist Andy Capp . Go-Bang DJs were playing the house sounds in the bar and sat just behind the decks was my boss which was interesting... A couple of drinks later and we went down to the venue, the Old Music Library opposite the Brighton Dome , which from the front window looked like an old funeral parlour complete with coffin and flowers. After an enjoyable weekend away in Janner land ("Green Army") to see Donna and favourite niece Morgan, our telly addiction continued thanks to a new series of House . No sooner had the last series finished the other week, all of a sudden Sky pulled out another series which starts with the grumpy medic doing mental time. Another drama-drug we're doing is Flash-Forward on Channel 5 . I had tried to avoid it but thanks to other users/abusers recommendations we're already hooked. The characters are a little one-dimensional at the moment which I'm hoping its down to the early episodes and the mood music just dumbs down the atmosphere for the audio warning signs e.g. tinkly piano moment for emotional pull, dramatic orchestra bit for tense action, sinister sounds for the baddies - are we keeping up American viewers (or do US TV execs think they need it)? Still, the concept is really clever but simple, the writers have an easy job of taking the story forward in any angl...

According to Charlie Ross' Twitter he's added a YouTube video with some footage of his show. Its slightly strange without any audience reaction but good nonetheless.

I always like being the first to share new things but never chocolate - its all mine, mine, mine! Mixing two passions of mine, chocolate and marketing , this is going to be everywhere very soon. I don't often check Jackson Publick's blog (creator of the Venture Brothers ) that often as he doesn't write that regularly but today I noticed an exciting entry of Season 4 preview. There's a great quote of "I love Hitler and Hitler loves me!" with some Nazis featured in an episode. With a key character leaving in the last episode of Season 3 (won't ruin it for those haven't seen it) there are some clues as to who will replace that person.

W ednesday night was a fun one out with Viv and baby Amy as we took them to Brighton's finest fried finery, Bardsleys for an expensive fish and chip dinner. The staff are really friendly, there's a wine menu and their reputation for quality was proven with the best chips ever. The owner was very chatty and, as he was hanging around the entrance Norman Cook walked past and said hello. Weirdly he was carrying a large bin bag. The owner told us that Steve Coogan and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley from Harry Potter ) were also regular customers. Saturday started with a delivery of this Daft Punk cartoon artwork for our decorating masterplan. Domestic , a french decor website specialises in cool wall stickers to liven up plain walls.
